When Sleeping Women Wake – Episode 1
What is it to be a Powerful Woman today? is a series of podcasts I’ve created to explore power in a very different way than we are used to defining it. Not as power-over, but as power-with, and ultimately as power-within.
While my work has always centered on the question of women and power, the recent exposure of sexual abuse and the imbalance of power it reveals across industries, has spurred me to explore this topic more publicly.
How do we make sense of what’s happening and engage with the issues in impactful ways?
“When Sleeping Women Wake” is the first podcast. Women are rising, speaking out, and demanding change. We are Woke! But how do we deal with our anger and perhaps even our desire to blame, so we can move forward and create a new definition of power based on feminine principles of collaboration and kinship?
It’s time to break the silence. It’s time to talk seriously about navigating the inner and outer barriers that stop us from rising. It’s time to lend a hand to other women and female-identified people on the path. It’s time to start giving fully of our gifts. It’s time for us as sisters to move out of the sidelines and have the impact we long for.
It’s time for us all to recognize the ways that patriarchy tries to keep everyone in very narrow gender constructs that inhibit our wholeness. It’s time for our male-identified brothers to step up as allies and reclaim their humanity, their capacity to feel deeply and their desire to conspire with us on this journey. Our liberation is bound together. It’s time for us all to roll up our sleeves and get free.
In this series, I am interviewed by my dear friend and writing coach, Mary Reynolds Thompson, who worked closely with me on my book, Spiraling Upward, and who knows my work as well as anyone.

The next podcast in this series What is it to be a Powerful Woman Today – Ep. 2 If You Only Stop Singing, I’ll Make You Safe, (a title taken from a poem by David Whyte), we explore the back story of how women came to be excluded from the power structure in the first place.
